“I’m going on this little thought-voyage, and some things are disturbing me, some things are confusing me, some things are delighting me unexpectedly, and here it is. Maybe you will come on this trip with me. Maybe you will feel the same, and maybe you won’t.” - David Cronenberg
Homegrown on a row crop farm in southeastern North Carolina, Sydney Hendrix has been peddling tall tales as far back as she can remember. there’s a joke in there somewhere about being the artsy daughter of a farmer and a soldier, but she ain’t quite found the punchline yet. Her love for film all started when she stumbled upon TCM while home sick flipping through channels. It seemed like a much more respectable outlet for her storytelling than the shows she was running previously — which starred intricately designed paper bag puppets.
Since that fateful afternoon, she's been honing her voice as a writer and a director with a primary interest in genre films and sharp dialogue. Influenced by Gregg Araki, David Cronenberg, The COEN Brothers, and Pedro Almodóvar just to name a few. Her love of music is also a defining influence in her writing and directing. Like dOn’t ask her how she Writes or directs her style of dialogue unless you’re prepared to learn a lot about how tom morello plays his guitar and have rhythms clapped at you.
Sydney Hendrix graduated from Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts with an mfa in film production as a directing specialist. now based in Los Angeles, CA — bartending pays the rent, but if you ask her what she does at a party she’s not gonna tell you that. She’s gonna tell you she’s a one woman sound department for hire with her kit included. she’s also gonna tell you she currently has six final draft documents open on her computer and plans to direct whichever one she finishes first. and if you play your cards right, she just might show you one of them.
